Wearing a hijab should not stop you from taking good care of your hair on a daily basis. In fact, your hair will need extra care and attention as it experiences different conditions under your hijab. Here are few useful tips to sustain the health and beauty of your hair:

Before having a shower, comb your hair with a wide-tooth comb to untangle any knots. This is quite important because hijabis usually wear their hair in a bun or ponytail underneath, and this often rumples the hair. This is a good initial step to avoid hair loss.

Use a mild or conditioner-free shampoo on a daily basis, as covered hair tends to be oily and damp. Using a mild shampoo will stabilise your scalp and prevent it from developing dandruff, which can trigger hair loss. Alternatively, apply hair oil or a cream rich in vitamins and nutrients two to three times a week.

Let your hair dry naturally and completely after shampooing and before wearing your headscarf. If you want or need to use a hair dryer, set it to a low to medium temperature.

Use inners and underscarves made from natural fibres such as cotton. Keep them loose in order to maintain air circulation for your scalp.

Simple and loose hijab styles are the best for the health of your hair as they allow air circulation.

Do not braid your hair or tie your ponytail too tightly. Your hair needs to breathe freely, so take off your hijab and untie your ponytail whenever you are able to.

Visit a salon or spa regularly. Relaxation, head massages, trips to a hair spa, and applying hair masks will help your hair grow better. You should also trim your hair regularly to get rid of split ends.

Beauty comes from within. Ensure you have a balanced diet by eating healthy food every day, especially sources rich in protein and iron, such as salmon, walnuts, eggs and spinach. The nutrients you take in each day help to fortify and nourish every strand of your hair.
